Ida Gotkovsky is a French composer and clarinetist known for her prolific output of over 400 works for various ensembles, including orchestras, wind bands, and chamber groups. She was born in 1933 in Paris, France, into a family of musicians. Gotkovsky began studying music at the age of four and later trained at the Paris Conservatory. She became a professor of music theory and analysis at the conservatory in 1975 and served as a member of the Paris Conservatory’s examining board and composition committee. Her works have been performed and recorded by numerous orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Gotkovsky has been honored with several awards, including the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris for her Symphony No. 2 in 1969 and the Grand Prix Musical de la Ville de Paris for her Concerto for Alto Saxophone in 1974. She has also been inducted into the Legion of Honor in France for her contributions to French music.
